iPhone 13 Review: all about Camera & Refresh Rate
Once again, the Apple Fall event impressed all viewers across the globe who were staying up or slacking off to see the reveal of the latest Apple tech gadgets. Either you are an iOS or Android fan, this smooth transition and captivating graphics of the presentation certainly will capture your attention.
The question that everybody would be asking is “What’s new with the iPhone?”
Read until the end for review video.
If you are unfamiliar with the iPhone universe, Apple releases 4 new iPhone(s) at their annual fall event, and for this year they are:
- iPhone 13 Mini
- iPhone 13 (Let’s call it the standard model)
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
I am here to break it down for you with the compare and contrast between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 product lineup.
As you can see, the camera has been the highlight on both slides above. This component that has the most changes for the new iPhone 13. If you’re not a big fan or user of smartphone cameras, the iPhone 13, unfortunately, will be less exciting for you.
Now, let’s talk camera.
Ultra Wide Lens
- It can be used for video recording including slow motion and time lapse — a good add for time lapse video recording
- It can focus on super tiny details — Apple says 2 cm, but I would then ask how often you will use this camera and how much this would improve your overall picture
Wide Lens
- A wider aperture has been added along with sensor and leverages on LiDAR Scanner for Night mode portraits — sounds good, but you should wait for review videos on YouTube
Tele photo Lens (For iPhone 13 Pro & Pro Max)
- It features a 77 mm focal length and 3x optical zoom, which makes it great for classic portraiture or shooting clearer photos and videos from far away — If you need zooming for your tasks, why not? Otherwise, it is just another good to have
Cinematic Mode
- It can shoot video with shallow depth of field and automatically adds elegant focus transitions between subjects post-recording — A definite bonus for those who like to record short clips on iPhone
Colours Selection
For iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, they come in five beautiful aluminium colours:
- (PRODUCT)RED
- Starlight
- Midnight
- Blue
- Pink
These colours look less exciting and basic. If you’re not in a rush and looking to buy iPhone 13 mini or standard, perhaps waiting for more colours to release is a smarter option.
For iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, they come in stunning 4 colours and they have a more premium, glossy and reflective finishes.
- Sierra Blue
- Graphite
- Silver
- Gold

Here is what you want to know — Pricing
The table below shows the launch price comparison between all 4 models between iPhone 12 and 13.
Most models are actually lower prices than the iPhone 12 launch.
Since removing the power adapter, Apple has managed to offer a more attractive price.
Do note that all last year’s flagships are removed from Apple’s website — the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. It means that if you are planning to snag a deal on them, you would need to get them through authorised resellers or third-party sellers.
Meanwhile, iPhone 12 and 12 Mini is now $100 cheaper on Apple’s website — now starting at $699 and $599, respectively.
To understand better what the upgrades are you are getting from iPhone 12 to iPhone 13. I have put together a table to highlight the key upgrades:
As usual, Apple does not disclose the battery capacity at launch, but this is the information about the video and audio playback hours.
In general, the impact of the pandemic which brought upon the logistics disruption and semiconductor shortage continues to put forward challenges to these tech companies. Most of their share price has skyrocketed since the start of last year. By maintaining the price range, Apple hopes to achieve another year of substantial sales record to get closer or beat analyst estimates and remain attractive to investors.
Getting iPhone 13 asap.
For the first batch of countries, pre-order starts 9.17. and starts shipping at 9.24.

Should I buy iPhone 13?
iPhone 12 Users
If you are having an iPhone 12 model now, there is no point for this upgrade as there are minimal changes between both models.
iPhone 11 Users
For those who owned iPhone 11 models, maybe you should also hang on a little longer? Except there are specific features on these phones, you do see a need, and then you might need to check on your bank account before deciding.
iPhone 10 & Previous Models Users
Those who have iPhone 10 and generation earlier and some extra cash on hand, this might be the one you want to consider as it packs all the upgrades you need.
Android Users
If you have wanting to try out the iOS universe for some time, iPhone 13 could be the one you want to get your hand on. Although it is pretty much the same design as iPhone 12, the price is also similar/equal to the previous generation. But of course, it has the latest and upgraded features, it could only get better!
What’s in box?
In case you are new to iPhone, there are neither charging adapters or earphones with this price tag.
There are only the device and 1 USB-C to Lightning Cable.
